Cebu City Sinulog Festival 2009 is an annual festival for all the BisDak (Bisayang Dako), Kapuso, Kapamilya and even Koreans (Saranghaeyo!), Western People and other National or Foreigners who will witnessed and to celebrate with our fellow Cebuanos on the third Sunday of January. Yay! It's really the grandest and biggest festival in the Philippines and a tourist attraction, with a contest featuring contingents from various parts of the country.
From Wiki, the word Sinulog comes from the Cebuano adverb sulog which is "like water current movement," which describes the forward-backward movement of the Sinulog dance. The dance consists of two steps forward and one step backward, done to the sound of drums.
Sinulog e shagit ug kusog, pit señor, pit señor tanan mag saulog! ha! this is the beat we can hear practically everywhere in Cebu just after new year. Well my friends and I decided to join in the fun as the Grand Parade is fast approaching!
Lots of activities lined up already. The Sinulog celebration traditionally lasts for nine days, culminating on the final day with the Sinulog Grand Parade. Sinulog dances will be performed in the malls with all the grand costumes. Organizers promised that this year will be a better and a grand one… well… planning to put on the most comfy slippers or shoes and be ready for a looooooooong walk around the city which will end with a very heartwarming fireworks!
Guess everybody is looking forward to the celebration… aside from that artists will perform here every year so everyone can take their own pick on which show or concert to watch. Last year we decided to watch Bamboo.
Sinulog is the most celebrated event in Cebu but more than the fun… dancing - drinking all over the area its about the thanks giving to dear Sto. Niño for all the blessings throughout the year. We will have fun and will enjoy the party mood but will definitely not forget to light candles and say our prayer of thanks!
