My First Smartphone: HTC Desire

HTC Desire is one of the HTC's Latest Triple Threats: Desire, HD Mini and Legend that were officially introduced in the Mobile World Congress 2010. I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of this phone and finally, time has come to try something new and it’s hard to get away from the fact that this is truly a great device.

I chose the HTC Desire simply because specs-wise, they are impressive to me.

HTC Desire Key Features I liked:
  • Google Android Operating System 2.1
  • 3.7 - inch AMOLED screen
  • 1 GHz Snapdragon Processor.
  • WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS.
  • 5 Megapixel Camera with Autofocus and LED Flash.
  • Geo – Tagging of Pictures.
  • 3G ( HSDPA ) network support.
  • Stereo FM radio and 3.5 mm jack
More of HTC Desire Specifications

There are many long and extensive HTC Desire reviews published everywhere, but they are about details and technical issues. I’d rather to give a glimpse at why I think I'm currently using one of the best cell phone today.

DropBox - The Easiest File Syncing Service on the Web

I have been using the 2GB free version for several months and I do really like the program and felt that I need more storage for my files. So, please help me get more space by signing up at here.

So, what makes DropBox so cool?

It lets you sync all your files online and across all your computers, whether they are running cross-platform.

Lugging around a USB flash drive, or a small hard drive, is also a bit cumbersome and hassle. Dropbox also syncs even with iPhones, iPads and Android phones and have their own app to download from the Dropbox website: https://www.dropbox.com/anywhere.

If you have a lot of heavy duty files you can upgrade to a Pro plan up to 100GB. I am not an affiliate of Dropbox but I do find it worth looking into.

Facebook Zero - Free and Fast Facebook Mobile Access for Developing Countries

First there was Coke Zero. Now, "Facebook Zero"? Yeah, you heard it right! Facebook has launched a new mobile site having no added sugar, lol.

Seriously, emerging mobile market operators have signed up with Facebook to allow users in posting status updates, like and commenting on other posts, send and reply to messages, or write on their friends' wall with incurred zero data fees.
Sun Cellular is the first mobile service provider in the Philippines, been convinced by Facebook not to charge their subscribers in accessing the site. There's a catch, though: viewing the content (such as a picture) that another user has posted will require the user to click a link, and thus incur a data charge. Soon, SMART and GLOBE will also bring this feature to the public.

Here's what the Facebook Zero Mobile Interface will look like:

Get Email and SMS Alerts When Someone Hacks Your Facebook Account!

Facebook just announced a new security feature that will prevent someone from infiltrating your account. You get notified by Email or SMS text message from an unidentified device. SMS notification, by the way, is available for SMART subscribers only. Arrghh, why Globe doesn't have this feature yet.

To make the procedures simple, click on "Account Settings" as pictured below (images are too blurred, it may hurt your eyes, wink!)

then click on the link next to "Account Security" at the bottom of the page. If you select "Yes", you'll be asked to name and save the various devices you use to access Facebook when you log-in again.

If you have registered your mobile with Facebook, you can take advantage with their SMS notification system.

So, when you login again, you have to setup your primary machine like I did.

Simple as that! So, when unrecognized and suspicious logins occur, Facebook will asks security questions (like identifying your birthdate or who your first kiss was). If the would-be hacker can’t answer the question, he or she can't gain access fully to your account.

Note that, when your cookies are cleared, you have to re-register again your device.

Throw an Invitation with GMail

Today, I have noticed a new feature in Gmail. This new feature allows you to send a calendar invitation to your contact list; it’s quite similar to Outlook, only with the Google calendar instead.

You can find a new link just under the Subject entry box that says Insert: Invitation.

Click the link and a new pop-up box will prompt you to choose these options shown below for your invitation.

The options are just a resemblance of a business greeting card, but with a little digital sweetenings. You input What kind of event is it, Where and When will it take place, and a Description of the event. Your list of invitees is simply the people you add to the To, CC and BCC fields of your email.

The new improvement here is the choice of calendar. If you have several Google calendars, you can choose between them to display your event. As people answer your invitation, the event will appear in their calendars.

Click the Insert Invitation button and your invitation will then appear at the top of your email box. You can add more details to your email before sending it. Notice the invitation shows the recipient that is invited—so, if your in-laws do not play nice with each other and you invite them both, expects an awkward response.

As people accept and decline your invitation, you will receive emails showing their decision.

In your calendar, the event scheduled will appear in maroon-red colors.

And if you decide to reschedule later the time or date of your event, you can do so from here. Google Calendar will automatically notify your invitees of the change.

This invitation tool is a great Gmail addition for the social butterflies among us. Inviting your friends over for an all-night custom party has never been this less complicated. Finding the best custome party ideas and supplies to keep the event lively is another story, but with these recent Gmail advances, there will probably be a solution for even that problem before long.
